The updated Rolex Explorer II offers a lot to explore – and it’s all in the details.
The Rolex Explorer II, or as it is fully named, the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Explorer II has received a rather more enigmatic update for 2021. Mysterious and nuanced the 2021 modifications they may be, but it is important to understand, they are also all-encompassing. From the movement through the dial and hands all the way to the case and bracelet, every element has been fine-tuned in a way that is meant to ensure greater wearing comfort, more beautiful proportions and yet higher movement performance. Here is, in a nutshell, all you need to know to appreciate the new Rolex Explorer II watch in 2021.
Long-time fans of the Crown will know, Rolex systematically dedicates great effort to the fine-tuning of seemingly small details. The Rolex Explorer II of 2021, for the untrained eye, looks exactly the same as the Rolex Explorer II of 2020. The trained eye will immediately seek out the small crown logo in between the “SWISS” and “MADE” words at the 6 o’clock position of the dial. That little crown is present exclusively on Rolex watches that contain the latest generation of Rolex movements – the so-called 32-generation.
The new-generation Explorer II is equipped with Calibre 3285 that incorporates those massive changes and updates that Rolex has secretly developed over years. These include a greatly extended power reserve that is now 70 hours or approximately 3 days – enough to last over a weekend, should you end up leaving your Rolex off your wrist from Friday night till Monday morning.
The bracelet is 1 millimetre wider which in turn results in a lug structure and case design that is more refined and more beautifully proportioned. The wider bracelet also brings with it a wider clasp on the underside of the wrist, ensuring a yet more secure and comfortable wrist. The handset on the black model has now done away with the black, so-called “phantom hands” and are back to a more old-school, polished 18ct white gold instead.
Small, but notable changes which add up to a yet more refined and comfortable wearing experience with this timepiece.
The price of the 2021 watch is 7.950 €. For more details, visit rolex.com.
