Braun Unveils NEVO: The New Luxury Way to Shave

Braun NEVO

For most men, shaving has always meant choosing a side. Go close, and you pay for it in redness and razor burn. Go gentle, and you're left checking the mirror for patches you missed. Braun has spent a century trying to close that gap, and with NEVO, the German house finally makes a serious case that the trade-off is over.

Call it what it is: a shaver built with the same instincts that go into a fine watch or a handstitched wallet. Every surface has been considered. Nothing on it feels like an appliance.

The heart of NEVO is a new cutting system Braun calls AeroTouch, the first of its kind in the world. Two hundred and fifty diamond sharp cutting edges sit behind the Ultra gliding foil, a surface engineered to eliminate the drag that's plagued electric shavers since they were invented. The effect is closer to a blade moving through air than metal moving across skin. Oliver Grabes, Braun's Head of Design, put it simply: the goal was a shaver so refined it stops making you choose between closeness and comfort.

That refinement extends to how the shaver thinks. A processor built into the handle, the NEVO Central Processor, reads your beard density and facial contours as you shave and adjusts power in real time. The way a good tailor adjusts a cut to the body in front of them rather than a standard size. A discreet display keeps you informed without a phone nearby: when to clean it, when a part needs attention, nothing more.

Then there's the object itself. Braun abandoned the plastic bodies that have defined electric shavers for decades and moved to a single piece of stainless steel, shaped using hydroforming, a technique more at home in automotive workshops than bathroom cabinets. The result has the weight and cold touch of a tool made to last, not to be replaced next year.

The supporting pieces carry the same intent. A 7 in 1 Care Center, now trimmer by 15 percent, cleans, lubricates and charges the shaver on its own, so it performs like new indefinitely. A quick five-minute charge covers a single shave, and a full charge carries sixty minutes of runtime. The companion PowerCase extends that further, up to six weeks between charges, waterproof, built for travel. Shave wet in the shower or dry at the sink; the shaver doesn't care which.

Chris McLellan, Senior Director of Braun North America, called NEVO a category defining moment for the brand, and it's challenging to argue otherwise once you look past the specs and at the intent behind them. This isn't Braun adding a feature to keep pace with competitors. It's Braun deciding a shaver deserves the same standard of material and permanence as anything else you'd choose to keep for years rather than replace.

NEVO arrives as a quiet argument for a different way of thinking about grooming: less about routine, more about ritual, closer to the objects we already treat as investments than the ones we treat as consumables.

Braun, founded in Germany in 1921, remains one of the most trusted names in considered design. NEVO is its clearest statement yet of where that legacy is headed next.

We got our hands on NEVO ahead of launch, and it's fair to say the team is over the moon. It's rare that a grooming product actually earns the word luxury rather than borrowing it, and this one does.
