Cartier Tank Must: The Icon Returns, and It’s Even Greener

“The Maison Cartier presents its new Cartier Tank Must models with a strong focus on their impact on the environment.”

The iconic Cartier Tank line is part of watchmaking history, and the Maison Cartier wanted to reinterpret it, rounding off the edges of the lugs to return to the suggestions of its origins, with that iconic shape reminiscent of the tracks of the first tanks used in the Great War.

Its reinterpretation also takes place by proposing “Attack” versions that are part of the Cartier Tank philosophy, a Cartier classic from the 1980s, destined for a younger, non-conformist clientele that wants to combine retro suggestions with a more trendy total look. Watches animated by traditional in-house manufacture calibres or by a precise high-efficiency quartz movement, with eight-year battery life.

The solar technology powering the SolarBeat version of the Cartier Tank Must has required over two years of development.

There is also an ecological novelty, a solar-powered Cartier Tank Must, a true Cartier first, which features an innovative photovoltaic dial. The micro-perforation of the dial allows the sun's rays to reach the winding cells located underneath it, ensuring this version of the Cartier Tank Must an autonomy of over 16 years. The SolarBeat movement, the revolutionary beating heart of the Tank Must, took the Cartier development teams at La Chaux-de-Fonds two years of work.

Both this model and the others in the Cartier Tank Must series are equipped with Altstrap straps, a highly innovative material 40% of which is of vegetable origin, produced from apple residues used in the agri-food industry in Switzerland, Germany, and Italy.

There are also two precious models of the Tank Louis Cartier version with gold cases that combine the refined elegance of the two-tone dial with Roman numerals and gold-coloured minute track. In short, a renewed range that brings new suggestions and temptations to fans of this timelessly fascinating watch.

The prices of the individual models vary. You can find more information on cartier.com.
