Larger-sized Rolex sports watches have for long been at the top of the wishlists of many Rolex collectors and enthusiasts.
Rolex had begun catering to their needs with the Sea-Dweller 43, introduced in 2017, and the Explorer II long before that. These were followed by the Yacht-Master 42 in 2019 that, for now, serves as the latest addition to a slowly, but surely growing range of relatively more substantially sized “Rolex Professional” watches — this being the Crown’s official term for its sportier watches.
For now, the Yacht-Master 42 is available exclusively in 18kt white gold, matched to a high-performance elastomer strap called Oysterflex, but don’t let that put you off — it would not be unreasonable to expect more variations to come sooner rather than later.
Despite the fact that this single reference cannot be configured in any way, it nevertheless marks a gentle, but confident move — typical for Rolex — towards an ever-expanding selection of luxury sports watches over the famed 40mm size.
Powered by the Manufacture Rolex Caliber 3235 that belongs to the latest generation of Rolex movements, the Yacht-Master 42 impresses with its watchmaking prowess as much as it does with its bold monochromatic aesthetic.
