The Constellation is an Omega staple. While always popular among men, its more compact and beautifully proportioned women’s references have forever defined its character. 2024 sees the launch of the new Omega Constellation, a gently and cleverly reworked series of watches that, in true Omega fashion, come available in a large variety of colours and materials.
Each new Constellation can be immediately identified by the swirling pattern of its dial — something that Omega originally launched in 2008 and today describes as a “hypnotic formation that gracefully unfurls from the emblematic Constellation star that sits at 6 o’clock.” And indeed, in a highly creative move, the brand set not the hands but the star as the centre of this pattern. Why is this so ingenious? It’s simple: For one, it elevates the dial by the majority of lines travelling upwards, as opposed to equally upwards and down, and, secondly, it is a refreshing new look compared to the centred execution we have gotten so very used to over time.
Every dial features gem-set hour markers, twelve or eleven, depending on whether there is a date display present at the 6 o’clock position. Either way, the symmetry of the layout is always preserved, allowing for the unique pattern to enjoy the limelight. Accurately rendered through a process called electromechanical etching, Omega uses another technology, laser engraving, to be specific, on the dials crafted from wafer-thin discs of mother-of-pearl.
The case that presents this stunning dial is that of a proper Constellation. The bezel is fitted with a ribbon of brilliant-cut diamonds, complemented by gemstones set between the iconic claws at 3 and 9 o’clock. The new Omega Constellation watch collection comes in three sizes, 29 mm, 28 mm, and 25 mm, rendered in stainless steel, full 18K Moonshine™ gold or 18K Sedna™ Gold, or a mix of both steel and gold. The cases are fitted with metal bracelets in a matching metal — with wide, curved, polished links with thin and long intermediary links, or rather more H-shaped, brushed links with more prominent connecting links in between. The strong taper — the way the bracelet is wide near the case and narrow near the clasp — is present on all, as it should be on a true Constellation.
A significant difference you will want to know is that the 29 mm-wide Omega Constellation watches are equipped with a Co-Axial Master Chronometer calibre exposed by a sapphire crystal case back. The 28 mm-wide and 25 mm-wide models are fitted with quartz (battery-powered) movements, no seconds hand, and a solid case back in steel or gold stamped with the Constellation Observatory medallion.
The new Omega Constellation ladies’ watches are presented by three remarkable Omega Ambassadors, Chinese actress Liu Shishi, South Korean actress and model So-Hee Han, and American model and actress Kaia Gerber. They look stunning wearing all-black, with their two-tone (steel and gold) bracelet-equipped Constellation pieces joining them in the spotlight. Given the number of colour and texture options, we recommend that you visit an Omega boutique and try many of the new Constellation watches on — it is on your wrist, and with your own eyes, that the best case, bracelet, and dial combination can be found. Be sure to enjoy that journey!
