Defining powers of their respective industries, Porsche and TAG Heuer have just made the stunning announcement of their highly promising global partnership. The Stuttgart-based carmaker and the La Chaux-de-Fonds-headquartered watchmaker are just four hours apart – a lot less, if you travel in a beautiful automobile with the Porsche crest on it. That proximity extends through space and into time, for the history of Porsche and TAG Heuer have intersected each other in numerous ways and on numerous occasions over the last decades. 2021, however, marks the beginning of the most special new chapter in their shared history: an official collaboration that should give TAG Heuer and Porsche enthusiasts some amazing new timepieces over the coming years.
Case in point is the timepiece that first materialises this unexpected and yet so perfectly balanced partnership: enter the TAG Heuer Carrera Porsche Chronograph Special Edition. First, there is the inspired name – the Porsche 911 Carrera and the TAG Heuer Carrera share their iconic names, both miraculously inspired by the same thrilling race in South America called Carrera Panamericana; the last of which Porsche actually won in 1954.
The 44 millimetre-wide TAG Heuer Carrera Porsche Chronograph is a luxurious piece of engineering with a calculated balance between top-tier sportiness and ageless elegance. If that painstakingly refined recipe sounds familiar, that is because it so seamlessly fits the Porsche 911 Carrera just the same. Beautifully finished stainless steel, black ceramic and virtually scratch-proof sapphire crystal safeguard what TAG Heuer calls a “grey asphalt dial” with applied Arabic numerals inspired by those seen on the tachometer dial inside the latest 992-generation 911.
